An Adventure With My Favorite Club

Hey everyone, Sam here. Happy April! Today, I want to tell you why I love to be involved in one of my favorite clubs: College Democrats! This year, I am the treasurer of this awesome organization and back in March I helped organize a great event to celebrate women’s history month.

We sponsored a women’s history walking tour of Georgetown! Thirty of our members were able to participate and we all took the metro from campus to just outside the neighborhood of Georgetown. We started our tour at the waterfront looking over Theodore Roosevelt Island and learned about Alice Roosevelt’s life in Washington and her determination to get the island dedicated to her father. As we continued, we saw other exciting parts of history such as Julia Child’s house, Oak Hill Cemetery, and Jackie Kennedy’s home. Our tour guides had tons of information and made the experience really fun. After the tour, we ended the night at our favorite spot for ice cream in Georgetown, Thomas Sweet (so delicious)!

Experiences like this are what make joining clubs at Catholic so fun and exciting. I have met some of my best friends in College Dems and every week we host different events. From celebrations of women’s history to guest speakers to campaign trips in the fall, this club definitely keeps it interesting! Clubs are a great way to find friends with similar interests and to keep exploring subjects outside your academic major. There are over 100 student-run organizations to join (or you can start your own club) so there is truly something for everyone! If you’re joining our community as a freshman in the fall, be sure to check out College Dems–we’d love to meet you!
