It’s No Trouble to Double

What’s your major? That’s the first question everyone asks each other when they meet at Orientation freshman year. Well, what if you can’t pick just one? You’ll find that a lot of students at Catholic are are choosing to pursue multiple majors and minors. Take my friend Will for example. He decided to purse both of his passions, even though they are so different, and look where it has gotten him so far!

Economics and German dual-major, Will McGowan, has always been fascinated with Germany and German culture. After becoming fluent in the language, Will had his heart set on studying in Germany during his time at Catholic University. With the help of the CUAbroad office, Will was able to achieve this dream, even during the pandemic. The Education Abroad team helped Will to build a personalized program that would allow him to study in Eichstätt, Germany during Spring of 2021.

“Due to the Corona Virus all my classes are online; however, that hasn’t stopped me from improving my German,” said the rising senior. One of his favorite classes has been Das Politische System der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, a class on modern German politics and their political system.

During his time in Germany, Will has been able to explore the country and build friendships with people from across Europe while practicing the German language. One of his favorite trips was scaling the German Alps, pictured above. He will return to Catholic U’s campus in August to begin his senior year, where he hopes to put everything he has learned in Germany into action and find a job that combines his two passions: German and Economics.
