Best of Brookland

Hi everyone, Rajhad here! As a D.C. native, I love exploring the neighborhoods around the area, but as a CatholicU student, Brookland is one of my favorites.

Catholic University is located inside the heart of the Brookland neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Brookland is filled with great dining options and stores that are a short walk for students from campus.

Brookland Pint

Nicknamed “the Pint,” this is one of the top picks for a Friday night burger and fries on the patio after a long week of classes. It’s a great place to take friends or family when they come visit you at school–I even had my 19th birthday celebration here! The food is well-priced and the menu has great options, though don’t take my word for it since I’m a chicken tender and french fry type of person.

Catholic University Bookstore

Located directly across the street from campus on Monroe Street, the university’s bookstore is home to all the textbooks a student may need for class. Need a CatholicU sweatshirt? They have everything you need to rep the best school in town. It’s my go-to spot to pick up a fresh memoir to read in between classes or grab a snack on my way to work.

Busboys and Poets

Located next to the bookstore, Busboys and Poets is another off-campus dining option that is frequented by students. Setting itself apart from other nearby restaurants, Busboys and Poets offers open mic nights, political-themed events, karaoke nights, and book clubs allowing its customers to express their love for literature and poetry.

Chipotle and Potbelly

Right on Monroe Street, you’ll always find Catholic students grabbing a shake at Potbelly’s or a burrito from Chipotle. Get in line early or it will be out the door!

Great Clips

Earlier this year, Monroe Street got a great upgrade! Fianlly a place to get your hair cut without going too far off campus. Whether you’re a freshmen who hasn’t quite found a suitable barber in the D.C. area yet, or you just need a quick trim before going home for the holidays, Great Clips is a great choice.

&Pizza

Ever heard of this place? This chain is a D.C. staple. If you want a quick pizza that you totally design from the crust up, this is the place to go. We call it the Chipotle of pizza.

That about wraps it up for my recommendations in our neighborhood, but don’t stop there! There are plenty more hidden gems all around Brookland.
